- Microsoft apparently abandoned a lot of the work they had done on Vista, and did some sort of re-write whereby making the kernel far more modular (in other words, more like linux). Agile programming methods promote modularity.
- Last year, one of our lecturers went to an Agile Programming conference and came back saying that he had spoken to several people from Microsoft at the conference, and those people where going to be adopting agile programming in their work.
- Microsoft have changed their release milestone system from the system of beta 1, beta 2, rc 1, rc 2 and so on, to a system of CTP (Community Test Program) releases which are far more incremental and appear more often. Agile programming methods promote shorter development and feedback cycles.
So there you have it, my reasoning for why I think MS is using agile programming methods in Vista.
